Girls on the Run Annapolis is a chapter of Girls on the Run
International. GOTRA was founded in 2005 by Beth Howell and has grown
from serving twenty girls in the Fall 2005 season to more than 300 in
the Fall 2009 season. We currently have nearly twenty sites throughout
Anne Arundel County and are adding more sites and classes each season.
Girls on the Run Annapolis is a non-profit organization that is
supported solely by program fees, individual and corporate donations
and grants. With your support we can continue this growth and serve
more and more girls in Anne Arundel County.

Staff
Angela Edwards first became involved in Girls on the Run in
the Spring of 2006 and served as a running buddy, assistant coach, head coach,
board member, and board president before assuming the role of Executive
Director in June 2009. She is a former career firefighter and paramedic and
currently is on the faculty at the University of Maryland College Park where
she coordinates the paramedic education program. She is also completing
her PhD in Exercise Physiology at the University of Maryland. Angie is a
personal trainer and avid runner and loves sharing her passion for health and
fitness with the girls.
Board of Directors
Susan Thaxton (President) received an
MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Political Science from Villanova
University. She was an officer in the United States Navy and a production
manager at an auto assembly plant, but now has the best job possible of raising
her two young daughters full-time. Susan began her involvement with girls
on the run in the spring of 2006 as an assistant coach for three seasons and
has just recently joined the board of directors. She is a runner who
requires participating in races to keep her motivated. She loves the
Girls on the Run program and truly believes that we are capable of
changing our culture one girls at a time.
Beth Howell (Secretary) brought Girls on the
Run to Annapolis in 2005 and served as Council Director from 2005-2009. She
holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Medical College of Virginia
with continued studies in critical care trauma nursing and understanding
adolescents. She loves working out, sailing and cycling. Beth feels strongly
about living and teaching healthy life style choices and that each girl (and
boy!) should believe in themselves and their own individual strengths.
